Achieving net zero: where will green investment come from?
9:30 am - 10:30 amAgenda
Join our panellists as they will discuss topics such as green investments, building inclusive workforces, the uncertain future of globalisation and how to achieve net zero while scaling sustainably.
Tuesday 20th Sep
The UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy seeks to unlock £90bn of private investment into green industries by 2030 as a stepping stone to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To succeed, the UK must strengthen its reputation as a global innovation hub in renewables, climate technology and low carbon industries. This debate will consider: What are the funding models and ecosystem required to untap green investment into UK scaleups? Who is driving the investment agenda for sustainable innovation and ‘good growth’? How can the UK unlock more domestic and international capital for scaleups engaged in good growth and low carbon technologies?

Working for everyone: how scaleups can build inclusive workforces
3:30 pm - 4:30 pmThe drive to deliver greater diversity, equity and inclusion across the scaleup ecosystem remains firmly at the top of the agenda for founders, CEOs, and business leaders. However, many scaleups still grapple with how to develop and implement an inclusive culture, particularly in the context of remote and hybrid working. This debate will discuss: How inclusion can provide a valuable tool for scaleups to recruit successfully in the current battle for talent, the building blocks of an inclusive culture within scaleups, from shaping a strategy to developing policies and leveraging technology and how remote and hybrid environments can provide opportunities to accessing diverse pools of talent, while creating new considerations for culture and management.

This debate will discuss: What are the competitive advantages of UK businesses on the global stage? How can scaleups benefit from strengthening ties between the UK and the US? And how will they interact with Europe? What are the challenges and opportunities facing UK scaleups seeking to operate internationally over the coming years?

Scaling sustainably: how scaleups can balance a growing footprint with a growing business
3:00 pm - 4:00 pmScaling a business is linked to increased greenhouse gas emissions. As companies add headcount, build more products and open more sites, their environmental footprint tends to grow. As the UK sets a target for net zero, there is a greater focus on disentangling business growth from environmental cost - How can scaleup leaders balance growth with environmental responsibility? Is it possible to grow a business without increasing overall greenhouse gas emissions? What models should scaleups follow as they move towards net zero?
