Biography

After a degree in Computer Science, Simon followed a career in large blue-chip companies such as Unilever, Pepsi and Dell.  He returned to tech leading early-stage businesses in Silicon Valley as COO of Riverdeep and then as CEO of LOVEFiLM, the online DVD and Digital Entertainment Company, up to the ultimate sale to Amazon in 2011. As CEO of Mothercare Plc. he led the initial turnaround plan before returning to tech as Chair of Moo.com and chemistdirect.co.uk.

In 2015 he set up the £200m Venture fund at BGF leading investments into companies such as Gousto, Doctor Care Anywhere and Firefly Learning. Since leaving BGF in July 2020 he has remained on the board of Doctor Care Anywhere supporting them through an IPO, he also Chairs Firefly and MuscleFood the protein based subscription company. He supported the broader investment eco-system as the previous Chair of the UK Business Angels Association. He is also a member of the investment committee of British Patient Capital, part of the British Business Bank.

In 2021 he took over as Chair of Fenwick, the family-owned department store company with nine stores throughout the UK.

Simon mentors a number of CEOs and is a trained business coach. He is a speaker on technology change and is a previous winner of London/SE Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. With LOVEFiLM he was the winner of the Sunday Times Buyout Track in 2011.

He lives in Buckinghamshire with his two children Monty and Nieve.
