Coppergreen owns and operates four holiday parks in England and Scotland (Woodland Lakes Lodges, Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort, Kenwick Park Estate, and Clumber Park Lodges).

With growth capital and scaleup support from our team, Sheffield-based holiday park business Coppergreen pursued an ambitious acquisitive growth strategy.

“After looking at a few funders, we found BGF. They were the best by far, really nice people, and structured a deal that was beneficial to us because they were minority shareholders. That gave us a big incentive to really make the business grow.”
David Copley
Co-Founder & CEO of Coppergreen

Following our initial investment in 2016, Coppergreen was able to acquire and integrate three additional holiday resorts into the group, and significantly expand all of its parks. We also:

  • Provided £10 million of follow-on funding, alongside further financing from HSBC
  • Introduced the team to its Non-Executive Chair, Steve Brown, the former-Founding Director of Center Parcs UK and Non-Executive Director of Forest Holidays

During our five-year partnership, Coppergreen grew from a single 54-lodge site into a four-park group, with 370 lodges and extensive on-site facilities.

“BGF’s advice and steer helped me achieve things I never thought I could. They supported me in recruitment and managing my team. They were never forceful or dictatorial. They gave me the guidance I needed to get on with it.”
Donna Copley
Co-Founder & CFO of Coppergreen

As a result of significant demand for UK ‘staycations’ after COVID-19, Coppergreen’s management team decided to accelerate their exit plans. And so, in 2021, following a competitive exit process, Coppergreen was acquired by Away Resorts, a private equity-backed holiday park business.
