BGF backs adventure travel specialist Wild Frontiers

The funding will help to accelerate the company’s growth through investment in technology, customer experience and international expansion.

BGF has completed an investment in Wild Frontiers, the award-winning adventure travel company specialising in premium small group and tailor-made tours.

Founded in 2002 by travel writer and explorer Jonny Bealby, Wild Frontiers operates more than 375 tours annually across 60 destinations worldwide. The company has built a loyal customer base, reflected in its 4.9 Trustpilot rating, NPS of 67 and repeat booking rate of 46%.

Under CEO Clare Tobin’s leadership, Wild Frontiers has implemented a growth strategy focused on technology, product development and customer experience. The business has also expanded its responsible travel proposition, including the launch of an off-peak collection designed to support local communities beyond peak travel seasons.

Clare Tobin, CEO of Wild Frontiers, said: “BGF shares our belief that the best travel is meaningful, adventurous and delivered by experts. This investment gives us the platform to bring Wild Frontiers to more travellers around the world, without compromising on what makes us who we are. We are committed to sustainable growth, which is reflected by our fantastic team, our staff retention and the B Corp status we are very proud of”.

Against a backdrop of growing demand for experiential travel, small group tours and premium travel experiences, particularly among over-50s and solo travellers in the UK and North America, the company is targeting a near tripling of annual passenger numbers over the next four years.

Funding from BGF will support the next phase of growth for Wild Frontiers, including further investment in technology and data, customer experience capabilities and further international expansion. The investment also contributes to BGF’s wider £300 million commitment to backing female-powered businesses across the UK and Ireland.

Chris Morgan, Investor at BGF, said: “Wild Frontiers has built a highly differentiated position within the premium adventure travel market, underpinned by a trusted brand, strong customer retention and a genuinely unique offering, supported by decades of experience delivering curated tours to some of the world’s most interesting and culturally diverse destinations. We’re delighted to be partnering with Clare and the Wild Frontiers team to support its continued growth.”

Founder Jonny Bealby will continue in his ambassadorial role, with a particular focus on the Wild Frontiers Foundation: the company’s charitable arm dedicated to supporting communities and projects in the destinations it visits.

Jonny Bealby, Founder of Wild Frontiers, said: “What began as a personal journey through Afghanistan, India and Pakistan more than 25 years ago has evolved into a business that continues to inspire adventurous travellers. I am incredibly proud of what the team has built and excited to see the business enter this new chapter alongside BGF.”
